• Susan Carn's monthly weather update
• The importance of calculating cost of production
• Understanding "lag" and "lead" indicators to measure stock and land condition
• Innovation articles from 'Wolhalla Station', SA and from 'Etiwanda', NSW

• An innovative crutching system from Perkinz
• Part two of the findings from the MLA/AWI Study 'Attracting and Retaining Staff in the Australian Pastoral Industry'

The innovation manual project is progressing well. We have over 50 innovations in the file awaiting compilation. State forums are part of this project design, so we are beginning to plan the forums which will provide a chance to showcase local innovations and launch the Australian Pastoral Property Innovation Manual. You can read about two innovations which will feature in the manual in this month's edition.
Some exciting news, just confirmed in the last few days - Bestprac has been successful in receiving FarmReady Industry Grant funding from July 2009 to December 2010. This is great news, as this project will provide funding for groups to continue to meet; aiming to improve the capacity of the Bestprac network to increase preparedness to adapt to climate change and climate variability. More details of this project will be available in the coming weeks.
Follow this link for project press release from the Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry -
SA members - we are still seeking an SA representative for the Advisory Panel. This role involves advising the project management team on the strategic direction of the project. The group meets annually face to face with teleconferences in between. Please call Carlyn if you are interested.
The team from Bestprac hope you enjoy this month's edition of the e-newsletter. We hope to hear from you all soon - remember articles can be submitted to Carlyn Mellors anytime cmellors@ruraldirections.com.
