When one door closes, another one opens. Often we look so regretfully upon the closed door that we fail to see the one that has opened for us.

August was a busy month for the Bestprac program. We had a few Innovation Road Trips and the Innovation Forum was held in Dubbo. Bestprac was also a finalist in the Australian Rural and Outback Awards program (The Agricultural and Rural Development Award and The Business, Training and Employment Award). Unfortunately we didn’t win the grand prize but this was great recognition of the significance and success of the Bestprac network.
Natasha Morley and I made the trip across to Dubbo, NSW from Clare, SA to attend the Forum and launch the Australian Pastoral Property Innovation Manual. The Forum was a successful event, with over 50 people attending. Personally, I found the drive over and back very interesting; the diversity of the country and enterprise types was amazing. It made me realise just how diverse and vast the rangeland zone is and the importance of the Bestprac network in linking the producers together.
In this edition:
- Another Weather Watch update from Susan Carn, SA
- SA Road Trip Report – From Burra, SA to Wilcannia, NSW
- Overview of an Innovation from the Manual – Churinga’s Rangeland Conservation Program
- Overview of the Dubbo Innovation Forum
- Qld Road Trip – From Cunnamulla, Qld to Cobar, NSW and beyond
I hope you enjoy this edition. Next month, we will have more information about the Australian Pastoral Property Innovation Manual and details about where you can order your copy.
