eNews - April 2010

Welcome

Welcome to the April edition of the Bestprac E-Newsletter.

Sorry for the delay in getting this edition to you all; I have been on 3 ½ weeks leave. During March I got married and then Stuart and I travelled to the South Island of New Zealand for our honeymoon. We had a wonderful time and were amazed by the scenery over there – and of course all of the water! They don’t talk in mm’s of rain – it is all metres! The highlight of the trip was visiting both Milford and Doubtful Sounds after nearly 200mm of rain over night; the Sounds were covered in waterfalls.

While I was away the Bestprac PAP and the other members of the National Coordinator team developed a new project proposal for Bestprac. This was submitted to AWI with the aim of taking the Bestprac project beyond January 2011. This is an exciting time for Bestprac as we look to the future and ways we can continue to work on the fabulous success of the Australian Pastoral Property Innovation Manual to inspire sheep and wool producers to improve their businesses.

In this months edition we have information about the Precision Sheep Management Webinars hosted by the Sheep CRC as well as details of the regional updates they are offering throughout the states. There is also information on the Nuffield Scholarships; applications are now open so give it a go. In previous years Bestprac members have participated in this program and they have found it very rewarding both personally and for their businesses.

We also hear from Susan Carn with some more predictions on the weather outlook. Susan has just been invited to become a “Climate Champion”, we hear all about this in her article as well. Well done Susan!

I hope you enjoy this edition of the Bestprac e-newsletter. We are always looking at improving the newsletter so I would welcome your feedback or comments at anytime, please send me an email bestprac@ruraldirections.com.

We want to hear from you!

To submit an article, picture or details of an event near you – please send me the details by the last week of every month and I will ensure it is included in the next edition bestprac@ruraldirections.com.

Thanks
Carlyn Sherriff (nee Mellors)
