From the National Coordinator
Welcome to the February edition of the Bestprac e-newsletter. I can’t believe that we are already in February; feels like yesterday that we were only saying “four weeks to Christmas”. February is a busy time for Bestprac from a national coordination point if view. We are currently developing an expression of interest project proposal for some DAFF funding that focuses on on-farm demonstration of climate change adaptation practices. If successful, this project would provide individual group and forum funding until June 2012. As we are heading into the last phase of our current AWI contract, this project would definitely add-weight to the prospect of AWI re-funding Bestprac. We are confident of securing AWI funds for the coming years; we have a PAP meeting scheduled for early March to plan out the strategy to secure these funds.
Whilst talking about the PAP, I’d like to welcome our new SA PAP representative. Bill McIntosh joins us from the Blinman Bestprac group in the Flinders Ranges. Bill has been involved in Bestprac for many years and is passionate about the future of Bestprac. Welcome Bill.
New opportunity:
Just this week I have received this call for expressions of interest for projects from MLA. These funds may be worthwhile for individual groups to investigate:
Meat & Livestock Australia (MLA) strives to help develop an efficient, sustainable and competitive red meat industry by fostering and building innovation across the red meat supply chain. A key component of our service to industry is to build skills and capabilities that accelerate the adoption of R&D outputs and promote sustainability and competitiveness in the on-farm sector. MLA supports initiatives and events that build awareness and uptake of tools and information from R&D to all its stakeholders.
The EES - On-farm program provides external parties the opportunity to seek support from MLA (on-farm) for scientific & industry communication, extension and adoption events/activities (workshops, field days, seminars, etc.).

I hope you enjoy this edition of the e-newsletter.
Catch you next month
