Bumper July Edition
The feature article for this edition is the focus on the “Business Boot Camp” program that some of our NSW Bestprac members have been attending. Additionally, from now on we will be providing a feature article each month. These articles will be researched and written by Liz Guerin who is a journalist based in South Australia. If you would like to submit feature article ideas to Liz, please email her directly. We are excited to welcome Liz to the Bestprac team as she has some great skills and can assist us to improve the e-newsletter that we provide the network.
During June, Stuart Mitchell and I attended the National Wool R&D Technical Update on Breech Flystrike Prevention, hosted by AWI in Sydney. This session provided an opportunity for all the current breech flystrike prevention research and development projects to share their progress to date and communicate this directly to the AWI extension networks through the chairpersons and coordinators. There were sessions on many areas, including breeding for breech strike resistance, clip trial results, skin traction R&D update, pain management, the National Wool Declaration (NWD) and the new FlyBoss website overview. Some of the presentations from these sessions will be available to the AWI networks. I hope to provide these to the Bestprac network as soon as I have them available. In the meantime, the FlyBoss and AWI websites have lots of great information – so take the time to browse these sites.
One outcome of this update is that Bestprac, with the support of Sheep CRC, is going to be coordinating a webinar on the topic on Flystrike Management. The webinar technology is being used successfully by the Leading Sheep Program (QLD) and is now being used by Sheep CRC. Webinars are a great innovation and enable expert speakers to share their knowledge with a wide variety of people across the entire country. As the webinar concept is new to Bestprac, we will provide some background information on the technology prior to our first session. Additional information about the planned flystrike webinar will be provided soon.
Upcoming industry events for your diary:
Grassland Society Conference
Why Merino Conference?
Making More from Sheep Forums (multiple locations)
Rangelands Australia Conference
I hope you enjoy this edition of the Bestprac e-newsletter,
