Welcome
Welcome to the June edition of the Bestprac e-newsletter. As I am writing this and looking out the window – it is raining. I hope that the outlook from your window is positive – with lots of feed and healthy stock. We would love to hear updates about your patch – why not share a regional update with the Bestprac network via our e-newsletter – contributions are always welcomed. Here in SA it has been a slow start to winter rains, with many cereal farmers delaying the start to, or stopping mid seeding, due to lack of moisture. Hopefully this rain continues as forecast.
Speaking of weather, this month we hear from Susan Carn – our resident weather writer. In this edition Susan delves behind the media headlines and discovers what factors triggered the recent BOM projections.
As part of the FarmReady Industry Grant project, that Bestprac is currently delivering, there will be state Climate Change forums held in all Bestprac states. In early May, Jane Garrett and her WA Bestprac group hosted a well attended forum at Monkey Mia. Jane has contributed a detailed article after the forum - Positioning Your Industry to Capitalise on a ‘Carbon Based Economy’. The speakers at the forum have agreed to provide their session presentations for all Bestprac members. These presentations can be found here. Thank you to all of the guest speakers and sponsors for this event; sounds like it was a valuable event.
Other climate change forums planned - There is an SA forum planned for 28 June and there will be QLD and NSW forums later in the year.
A complete list of Bestprac network events can be found here. If you would like your event posted on this site, please send it through.
I hope you enjoy this edition of the Bestprac e-newsletter.
